Pope Lake Trail

A loop trail crossing Rural Rd and circling through a pine forest, with views through the woods of Pope and Marl Lakes.  The trail is fairly wide and clear, and there are a few moderate hills. The trail starts as a branch from the Dike Trail, weaving through the forest before crossing Rural Road and then looping through the pine forest. Several hills give views of Pope Lake State Natural Area and Marl Lake through the trees.

Sights:

The trail has several beautiful expanses of pine, and views of Pope and Marl Lake from along the trail.

Winter Use:

The trail is groomed for cross-country skiing – only cross-country skiers are allowed on the trail (hiking, snowshoeing and dogs are not allowed in winter).

Getting to the Trail:

The closest parking lot is at the beach and starting out from the north end of the parking lot on the gravel trail (not the trail to the beach).  After hiking in about 500 ft, there’s a trail junction and turning right (east) will lead to Rural Road and the loop.
